INI files are less important in 32-bit Windows® environment. Windows® NT/2000/XP maps WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI to the Registry, and Windows® 95/98/ME moves most of the settings from those essential INI files to the Registry. Still, older programs may rely on WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI (or their own INI files), and therefore their install programs (or applications themselves) may modify these files. By default, Snapshot will tracks all changes made to those two files by making a copy of each before the install/application test, and comparing the copy with the same files afterwards. It reports sections and keys added and deleted, and also reports the old and new values of keys that changed.
You can add or remove INI files from the list using the buttons on the "INI File Tracking" page. You can even eliminate INI file tracking completely by removing them all from the list.
Although this feature was originally designed with INI files in mind only, Snapshot will also report on changes made to regular ASCII text files as well.
